Background:

Staniland School was built in 1978 to replace the old Staniland School in Fydell Crescent which was originally in 1896. The school is a single-storey building with twelve permanent classrooms, a hall, resource and display areas. There is a mobile classroom situated adjacent to the junior playground, in addition to its 'Star Base' accommodation which is used as its learning support centre. It has a computer suite and library. There are extensive school grounds, consisting of two playgrounds, playing fields and nature areas - ponds, meadow and wildlife habitats. It has a wide variety of sporting activities including football, netball, rounders, cross-country, athletics, gym and cricket. The school curriculum has core subjects including English, mathematics and science and foundation subjects including technology, history, geography, music, art and physical education. The school aims to provide a safe, stimulating, aesthetically pleasing learning environment to ensure a sensitive and successful transition from home to school.
