Background:

Founded in 1631 by Francis Rawlinson, Rector of South Kelsey; occupies attractive site on brow of hill close to centre of small market town of Caistor, 24 miles north of Lincoln and 15 miles south of Humber Bridge. Original ironstone school hall still in daily use; buildings extended in 19th century, 1930s and, substantially, in 1980s. New technology buildings added in 1995, followed by new sports facilities in 1997. Takes top 25 per cent of ability range, with many pupils from outside the six-and-a-half-mile radius catchment area. Flourishing extra-curricular programme includes Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, Young Enterprise, wide range of sporting, musical and dramatic activities. Vigorous house system, which supports considerable inter-school competition. Chair of governors and headteacher both attended Buckingham Palace reception for successful schools in 2000; headteacher also attended reception at Highgrove in 2002. Specialist sports college status from September 2005; hub school in the Lincolnshire School Sports Coordinator Partnership.
