Background:
Founded in 1858, the school is situated in Gipsey Bridge village, near Boston in rural Lincolnshire. It traditionally serves the village and surrounding villages but an increasing proportion of pupils attend the school from further afield at parental request. Regular out-of-school clubs include chess, football, athletics, calligraphy, jogging, cricket, rounders and lego. Since 1993, the chess team have been semi-finalists in the national tournament. The pupils are 'happy well behaved children' and have the opportunity to participate in the 'regular' adventure weekends. All juniors have cooking lessons and take part in a topic-related visit every term, and all leave the school able to read music and to swim. Links with the community are furthered by activities such as carol singing and the village fete. The Parent-Teacher Association raises money to support the school which is currently over-subscribed and receives 11 applications for every 10 places.
