Background:

Founded in 1862, the school has been situated on its current site in North Hykeham, a satellite town four miles from Lincoln, since 1968. The 'happy, caring and secure' school is housed in a single-storey, brick building with ten 'well-furnished' classrooms and a hall. Outside are two playgrounds and a large sports field, part of which is now a nature conservation area with a paved herb garden. The 'broad and balanced' curriculum is seen as particularly beneficial to those pupils with learning difficulties. Staff often teach through themes, bringing many subject areas together. Extra-curricular activities include orchestra, recorder, French, football and gymnastics. Older children take part in residential visits in the summer term. Parents support the school by attending assemblies and helping in classrooms, while the 'active' Parent-Teacher Association organises social and fundraising events and is now working towards providing a computer suite for the school. Links with the local church are 'strong', and children regularly visit residential homes and nurseries in the area.
