Background:
Origins can be traced to founding of Magdalen College School in Wainfleet in 15th century; moved to current site in Skegness in 1933; became first grant-maintained school in Britain; 65 boarders live in high-quality accommodation in Edwardian Wainfleet Hall by Steeping river in Wainfleet. Considerable development in past decade includes modern languages suite, three computer suites with 130 networked machines, sports hall, art and design studios, and technology area. Science department has developed alternative energy project and weather station. Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Additional Further Mathematics are offered at A-level. Specialist sports college status from 2001; also successful lottery bid; excellent sports facilities such as floodlit tennis courts, a new pavilion and an all weather pitch as well as additional teaching and coaching staff. Available sports include tennis, cricket, netball, hockey and football, and the school maintains links with Lincoln City Football Club, Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire County Cricket Clubs, and the Lawn Tennis Association. Specialist mathematics and computing college status. Before-school care, from 8am; after-school care, until 5pm. Over-subscribed, with three applications per place.
