Background:

The St Michael's is a voluntary controlled Church of England primary school catering for children aged four-11. It is located a few miles to the south of Lincoln city in the village of Thorpe-on-the-Hill. There has been a Church of England School in Thorpe since the beginning of the century. New school buildings were completed in 1984 and in 1991 a third classroom was added on. In 1996, due to increasing interest in the school, a fourth classroom unit was sited. The school has a large playing field and hall, both of which are used by the local community as part of the 'Chance to Share' scheme. All children from Year 1 upwards go swimming. The school has football, netball and athletics teams. Matches and competitions are arranged with other local schools. There is also a tradition of music making, dance and drama at the school. Children may learn to play the descant, treble and tenor recorder. Instrumental tuition is also available for keyboard, piano and guitar, for which a charge is made to parents. Each night there is an after-school care club known as the 'Time Out Kids Club'. The school offers various extra-curricular activities and clubs including basketball, recorders, sign language, French etc. Children are encouraged to think about the wider community and special fundraising events have been held for various charities. The school aims to ensure that every child has a stimulating and enjoyable education and achieves his/her very best in all aspects.
