Background:

Founded in 1571; moved to current site on outskirts of Horncastle in 1908; subsequent development made as result of expansion; recent additions to buildings include new art and physics block, and technology centre. Serves wide rural catchment area, stretching as far as Lincoln and Boston and including much of central Lincolnshire. Extensive playing fields on site allow pupils to pursue wide range of sports and extra-curricular activities, including outdoor pursuits, traditional team games, community service, music and drama. Numerous educational trips are arranged each year, both at home and abroad. Well-established links with local industry; pupils encouraged to take part in Young Enterprise scheme. 'Above all, the school is a friendly and caring place. It enjoys excellent support from parents and from the community it serves.' Specialist science college status from September 2003.
