Background:
South Parade Junior School is situated close to the centre of Grimsby. The school building was originally opened in 1878 though it has only been in use by the present school since 1990. The site is shared with the feeder infant school. Most pupils are accomodated in the original building with others in two temporary buildings close by. The full range of national curriculum subjects is offered and alongside these pupils can participate in netball, football, gymnastics, recorder, hockey, rugby union, art and craft, choir, French, chess, dance, book clubs, drama, homework, information technology and science. These are usually offered as after-school clubs. All pupils in Year 4 learn swimming and tuition is available in certain instruments. Links with local industry have been developed in order to provide opportunities for educational visits. The school has also organised sponsorship from various companies. This helps to fund the football team, the weekly prize draw and school stationary.
