St George's opened in 1965 in its current location on the north east side of Stamford. It occupies 'pleasant, spacious and well-equipped' buildings in spacious, safe and pleasant grounds. A 'balanced and broad' curriculum is offered, and all children experience a wide range of sports, including an annual sports day. The school netball team won the Stamford and district tournament and was placed joint first in the league for the 2001 season. The school maintains 'close links' with St George's Church and the local community. 'St George's exists to promote the Christian values of love, care, respect and responsibility and to provide a high quality education for all children.' The school is over-subscribed, receiving 1.4 applications for each place. It won a government award in recognition of its improved results between 1997 and 2000.
