Background:

The current school was opened in 1963 and has developed into a successful comprehensive school serving a wide area from Grantham in the north to Stamford in the south - and from Bourne in the east to the west of the A1. It was renamed 'The Charles Read High School' in September 1999. The school is in the beautiful, quiet and peaceful village of Corby Glen. It gained the national School Achievement Award in 2002. Many modernisations and improvements have been made over the years. In particular this year the school has enjoyed a major investment in modern equipment. It has a whole school network of computers, which ensures that computer facilities are available in every classroom. The school has also provided a second computer room in the technology area and the technology room has been refurbished with modern equipment. The school is thus able to boast modern and well-equipped teaching facilities. The design and technology areas are spacious and well-equipped with modern equipment and facilities for working in all the material areas. The facilities within the music department include 17 keyboards, and guitars, a new range of percussion instruments and recording equipment. The school has enviable sporting facilities, which include a gymnasium with badminton court, a basketball court, a volleyball court, full gym equipment and table tennis tables, a sports field and hardball courts with three tennis courts and three netball courts. The school aims to challenge and encourage all children to achieve their full potential in all aspects of their school lives and to care for each individual's moral and spiritual well-being and educational progress.
