Background:
Situated in a pleasant, open site, the college offers state-of-the-art information technology facilities, an integrated design technology facility and the latest interactive whiteboard teaching facilities. The college has the largest expressive arts complex. It also has a library resource centre with multimedia and internet research facilities, five modern science laboratories and a learning support centre. There is a sixth form centre with conference facilities. Its Technology College status benefits the whole college. The college's reputation for excellence in the arts continues to grow. It offers a wealth of opportunities, including Shakespeare workshops, individual music tuition, painting, sculpture, dance and circus skills. In recognition of its achievements in this area it has received the national Artsmark award. The college encourages involvement in a wide range of sports. Wider opportunities include professional instruction, fencing clubs, camping and related challenges. Its sporting excellence has been recognised by the national Sportsmark award. In addition there are many opportunities to be involved in different clubs and societies. After-school or at lunchtime students can go to the homework, science or art clubs, practice musical instruments, join the orchestra or samba band, take part in drama, play chess, attend extra subject study sessions and can use the computer suites. The college works to recognise and develop each student as an individual, creating a college life that is both stimulating and challenging and prepares students for the demands that lie ahead.
